My "You Are My Sunshine" Room

There you have it...the yellow playroom. I'm very pleased with it. It is light and warm at the same time. Thanks for the encouragement to "go out on a limb" everyone.

Here's a sneek preview of the master bathroom sink vanity. I saw this piece at Poppyseeds. It is a buffet so it sits higher than a typical sink. We'll drill some holes on top and add two vessel sinks. I won't even have to lean over to spit my toothpaste! This piece designed the entire master bedroom with a shabby chic theme. I'll post pictures some day if it turns out anything like what is pictured in my head. You can sort of see the color of the room in the background. It turned out a very pearly gray/purple. It's a unique color and I'm loving it!


And THIS little cutie hung out with me today. That is my new personal electric screwdriver. Isn't it just C*U*T*E?! Randy showed me how to wire outlets and light switches. We worked on the master bedroom yesterday and today I wired the laundry, hall, and entire downstairs. It was fun...especially with such a handy little tool.

I could have used a personal boxing glove on my left hand. Four knuckles are bruised and scabbed. I whacked the wall on 44 of the 47 outlets while trying to strip the end of the wire. On the 45th outlet I figured out how to use the wire tool correctly and it was as easy as Randy made it look! I'm still chanting, "Black wires on the right, white wires on the left, ground wire on the funny screw." Then, "Oops, how did the screwdriver get in reverse AGAIN? touchy button." And, I move my paint can seat to the next hole in the wall.

Ain't nobody gonna call me a painting coward!!! I picked up my yellow paint today for the playroom! I rolled the little 1/2 bath yesterday with yellow and LOVED it. So that made the playroom decision.

I've been making all kinds of rash decisions on my way to the paint store this week. I can't seem to decide on any samples that I paint on the wall so I end up picking a color when I get to the store and go with it! Dumb way of doing things, but hey, now my kids can play paint store with all the cute little sample bottles.

My dear, dear husband is painting our bedroom as I type. I "decided" that the 5 gallon bucket I got earlier this week was too dark so we "decided" to paint the not-so-visible areas with that and I'd go back today and get one shade lighter for the rest of the room. After two hours of taping off areas of the room he turned on the paint sprayer for the first time in almost 6 years....and I loved the color! I hung my head, gently asked if he would wring my neck if I "decided" that I liked that color afterall and wanted the entire room painted, making the morning taping all a waste of time and energy. He sort of smiled, shooked his head, agreed it was a nice color, and I lived to tell about it. So when I "decide" some things, it doesn't always mean a decision has been made. The wall is out!!!

The addition is no longer the addition, but part of the house...the "other upstairs" and the "basement".

I'm starting to chicken out on my yellow playroom. It is a lot of wall to repaint if someday I decide I just can't stand yellow anymore. What to do?! Paint is the hardest part for me. Nothing looks the same on the wall as in my mind. I DO NOT like RE-painting. I DO like RE-decorating. So...if I paint all the big rooms a neutral color, than I can redecorate whenever there needs to be a change. That's what I'm thinkin'.

Sleepless in Stanwood

I'm starting to lose sleep over the addition! Look at how close we are to "moving in". Of course there's a lot of finish work to do that will take all of February, probably, but I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!

The Baking Center

Happy Birthday to me from my in-laws and my husband's hard-earned money. It is a little early, but I couldn't pass up this little treasure!

I saw this hutch at a local Vintage Shop (Poppyseeds) and thought it would be perfect for my baking center area that was just a makeshift area in the kitchen - useful, but not permanent. The hutch was painted blue, which was really cute, but didn't match my kitchen. I offered a deal and a new paint job. They were happy to do it and here it is.
(Now it is time for some cute, non-see-through baskets)

p.s. I can't wait to show you the other items I bought from Poppyseeds. Three pieces that are going to become the sinks/vanities in each of the new bathrooms.
