Menu

Sunday - do-it-yourself. Personally I had a bowl of granola! Fancy!

Monday - baked halibut, salad, fruit salad, pinched small, red potatoes (baked, pinched open, salt, pepper, and drizzled w/olive oil)

Tuesday - chicken cakes (like crab cakes, but with canned chicken), cinnamon/sugar apples, quesadillas

Wednesday - ham and cheese turnovers, nectarines, salad

Thursday - oven glazed chicken (YUM! and so easy), something else

Friday - leftover glazed chicken shredded and put over rice, biscuit bites

Saturday - beef taco skillet, ceasar salad, nectarines

This week I went through a bunch of recipes that I had ripped out of magazines, picked out what I wanted to make for the week, and left the pile on the counter. I did my grocery shopping Monday and got everything I needed for the week. Each day I went through the stack and chose what sounded good for that night. I liked this idea - it was a new recipe every night. I didn't think I liked cooking from recipes! Workers this week...I'm going to have to get more creative with my side dishes...the hardest part for me.

Garden Shed

The garden shed is slowly, but surely, coming along. I was able to take advantage of our late summer and get the whole thing painted. (Kaylee wanted to take a picture so bad!) After we get things cleaned up around and inside the shed, then I can take a picture from the front. It looks so tacky at the moment....our poor neighbors. Did I post ealier that I was going to paint the shed barn red? That was the original plan. The final plan ended up being the same color as the house so I can plant colorful flowers in front without clashing with red paint. I'm still going to have big, black hinges on the doors! And, one old window has been installed.

My helper!
Keeping out of the hot sun and the wet paint.

Birthday Boys

Wayne and Randy share the same birthday...years apart, of course, but the same day! Wayne provided great entertainment for all of us.

Trying to find the right angle in which to read something without one's reading glasses. This took some time!

Work in progress...YEAH!

This is so exciting to me. My backyard has never looked so beautiful. Mounds of dirty dirt, almost weedfree green lawn all torn up and trodden down, drain rock ground into the sifted garden soil, broken limbs on the lilac, backhoe-severed underground wire fence for the dog! All this means the addition is another step closer.
You can't see it in the picture, but Trevon took his breakfast to the window sill and was watching the construction while he was eating. Too cute!

Menu

Sunday - egg mcmuffins, fruit salad tossed with vanilla yogurt

Monday - orange chicken wtih rice; broccoli tossed with cheese, french fried onions, seasoning, tiny bit of mayo, bacon

Tuesday - poor man's steak (hamburger patties seasoned and grill like New York steak!), strawberry bran muffins (way yummy!!), broccoli casserole (made like green been casserole only with broc)

Wednesday - leftovers with salad and quesadillas

Thursday - marinated chicken largely chunked and put in a vege grill basket so it can be tossed while grilling, sauteed grean beans in olive oil with bacon and parmesan, lemon herb wild rice. (I got the rice at Winco in their bulk section. It made the pantry smell wonderful, it made the kitchen smell wonderful while simmering, but it was a tad blah and too much of a grown up taste for the whole family - we don't care much for the texture of all those extra "things" in wild rice!)

Friday - fajitas!! this just might make the "more than once a month list"!

Saturday - tried a Mexican restaurant in Mt V that was recommended to us by BethR. THANK YOU! it was awesome.

First day of school

I'm not even a full week behind schedule. I'm only six days past the first day of school. The kids were excited, all smiles, ready for the first day.

This week's menu

A few of us were talking over the Labor Day weekend about sharing our menu plans. I'm one that likes to fix something different (not necessarily new out of a cookbook) every night and not duplicate more than a couple of times in a months time. It is not always easy to come up with 30 dinners at once. I thought it would be fun to try posting at the end of the week what we had for dinner all week. Some like to plan ahead for the week, some figure it out at dinner time. Posting at the end of the week will give us something to post no matter how we do things!!!

Monday - grilled hamburgers/fruit tray

Tuesday - grilled salmon burgers/salad/fruit

Wednesday - Sundried tomato basil mozerella chicken burgers from Costco (kind of gross, in my opinion) /salad
(I had a lot of onion buns that I needed to use, thus the burgers, burgers, and more burgers!)

Thursday - oriental chicken wraps (popcorn chicken from Costco, lettuce, cheese, grated carrots, bacon bits, Yoshida's original sauce, lightly fried tortillas) (a favorite!)

Friday - end of the first week of school PIZZA by request/ ceasar salad

Saturday - NEW: tajitos (a cross between tacos and fajitas) fresh lemon chicken from Costco baked and chunked, lettuce, cheese, sauteed peppers/onions, guacamole, lime creme (50/50 mayo, sour cream, lime juice, tiny bit of sugar). YUM!

I'm looking forward to getting ideas from you all!

Summer's End

Lake Roosevelt marks our Summer's End
where...
...even the dogs have to "ruff" it by using rocks for pillows,

...each year something new and fun is engineered,

...mommy gets a little bit more brave,

...new rules get added to the game of golf,

...good books get read,
...sea monsters are up close and SCARY,
(you've get to enlarge the pictures to really see these faces!)

...bubbles fly,

...boys race,

...some mommys get bored with books and sunbathing,

...that same mommy knows how to create,...sand castles get more creative as the kids get older,

...dogs that don't like to swim find the nearest floaty toy,
...some floaty toys are just too big,
...fishing season begins,

...the sunsets are beautiful endings.
